Hello, Ireland!

Sorry for the two-posts-one-day thing, but I figured I should separate Kassel and Ireland.

This time tomorrow, I will be in Ireland and I can't properly put into words how ridiculously exciting I am.  All I know is that I'm going to find Claire in the airport, and punch her in the face.  Because I don't like her in the least and haven't missed her at all.

Our plan is to buy bikes and cycle around the country.  Other than that, we have zero plans, not even ones involving where we sleep.  At any rate, it's going to be one giant spontaneous adventure and I CANNOT wait.

I'll be gone until October 2nd, at which point I'll start blogging again.  I'll try and update from the road, so do check back occasionally.  Claire and I are taking the Roadtrip Diaries with us, so we can record and illustrate our trip, which is sure to be entertaining.  Because there's no way I can fit a month's worth of madness into recap blog posts, I've decided in October I'll post the best and most entertaining of our Roadtriy Diary entries for your reading pleasure.  Or not pleasure, as the case may be.

With that, see you guys in October!

Kassel day trip!

Hey all!

Here's a blog post and some pictures I've been meaning to post since forever, but crazy neighbors and MRIs kept getting in the way.

Earlier this month, Al and I made the (in retrospect, extremely intelligent) decision to push our Poland trip back to October, due to the sheer amount of uni work we had to do.  However, we wanted to go somewhere, so we decided to at least take a day trip to Kassel.

Kassel, for the record, is a shit city, but the Bergpark where we were is drop dead gorgeous and really, REALLY cool.  It's just a giant giant park, with one big palace in the middle, then a smaller castle built to look like ruins, then a massive figure of Hercules you can hike up to.  Which we did, in 95 degree heat, and almost died but it was totally worth it.  There was also a funky troll bridge thing.  All in all, it was a really good day!

Here, have some pictures!

I'm not sure what this was, but it was funny:

The hike up to the big palace

Yay!

More palace things.

 Palace palace palace.

Troll bridge!

Hercules...under construction.

The thing that's really cool about the Bergpark is that every day they send a ton of water from Hercules all the way through the park.  After the water had stopped flowing, we were really hot, so we just jumped in the pools.

Looks like an infinity pool...

...actually just an allusion.  The pools are stepped.

HERCULES!

The Hercules building.  We didn't go inside because you had to pay, and we found that very unfair after the hike we'd just made.

Disney-like castle:

Bergpark is totally worth a visit, it comes highly recommended from me.
